Optimising reverse osmosis and energy footprints in desalination and water reuse

When: Sunday 16 September

Where: Paradise Hotel, Busan

Facilitators: Nikolay Voutchkov (Water Globe Consulting), Valentina Lazarova (Suez Environment)

Learn about how reverse osmosis (RO) is used for water reuse and desalination, and recent trends in energy reduction and performance optimisation.

We will introduce you to RO fundamentals; discuss RO membrane structure, operation and configuration; how to use them for water reuse and desalination; and the cost and energy benefits and challenges of different configurations.

This workshop is very interactive―we encourage people to share their experiences and views. The workshop will be useful for plant designers, equipment and membrane developers, and practitioners who operate/maintain RO systems.

Sunday programme

13:00 RO systems fundamentals

  • Basic Principles of RO: processes; membrane structures/types
  • Key performance and design parameters: system recovery; membrane salt rejection; membrane flux
  • RO system components: selecting RO membranes for reuse or seawater desalination

14:15 Applying RO to water reuse

  • RO systems for water reuse: status and trends; water production costs; energy use; system configurations for performance and energy optimisation
  • Key challenges and solutions: controlling fouling; product water quality; energy use

15:15 Afternoon break and networking

15:30 Applying RO to desalination

  • RO systems for desalination: status and trends; water production costs; energy use; system configurations for performance and energy optimisation
  • Main challenges and solutions: controlling fouling; product water quality; energy use

16:30 – 17:00 Questions and answers

Price: € 75.00 for IWA members, € 100.00 for non-members. This includes handouts and afternoon tea.
